Humility

It is said of Moses that he was the humblest man on the face of the earth - yet he was no doormat. I am convinced that we have got it wrong in the Church when we link humility with humiliation. While that may sometimes be true, many men and women walk humbly with their God without looking like spineless wimps.

The crisscrossing of grey and brown on this banner represents the use of sackcloth and ashes as a way of outwardly portraying humility before God. The strong line of the terracotta arrow moving forward as the banner is flown represents the strength that is necessary for true humility and the strength that manifests itself as we walk humbly with our God.

To consider that God is with us during our pilgrimage on this earth, to provide His help as we reach out in service to others, is a thought so awesome that humility must be our only response.

Jesus being willing to humble Himself and take on the form of a man was a fulfilment of God's character name as Immanu El - God with us. He remains our ultimate model of humility.
