Declaration of God's Truth in the Marketplace

For some period of time the image of a sunburst appeared before me whenever I prayed. The image became so frequent that I was led to describe it to an artistic friend. “This image,” I shared, “will make a nice replacement logo for my business.”

My friend drew out the image of the sunburst as I had described it. Unfortunately the drawing came out too mechanical and rigid. I thanked the friend and then placed the drawing in a desk drawer to let it sit.

I have been in private practice as a professional counsellor for nearly twenty years with a special emphasis in marriage and family therapy. This profession is God's calling upon my life and I witness regularly the freedom that is found when people set Jesus Christ as Lord of their lives (Gal. 5: 1, 13).

In the spring of 2006 I attended the Global Harvest Ministry conference in Nashville, Tennessee, with my family and some friends. As we worshipped I saw the most glorious collection of worship banners that I had ever seen.

As I marvelled at each of the banners, suddenly before me in flag form was the sunburst that I had seen in my mind's eye. I was awe-struck. Following the meeting I hurried to the banner table to see what this flag stood for.

The sunburst on the banner-flag stood for New Growth. “How wonderful,” I declared. That is exactly what counselling does when it works best. It brings forth New Growth through the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2).

Earlier this month I once again attended the Global Harvest Ministry conference in Nashville. As we entered into praise and worship I noticed my wife carrying one of the banners. Which one? The New Growth banner. Unaware of the one she was choosing, it was the perfect banner for her. She has grown tremendously with God in the last year, more so than at any other time in our twenty-six year marriage.

“Okay,” I prayed as I worshipped. “I confess my disobedience. I have not given the New Growth banner the proper place in my ministry that You desire.” At the end of our worship time I purchased a New Growth banner. When it arrives it will be honourably displayed in my waiting room-ready to greet all who enter.

I can proudly say, “God's banner over my ministry is New Growth.” Even now we are seeking God's heart, “Which banner Lord will you have us place over our home?”

Editors Note:- Scripture tells us that His banner over us is love. His love is made up of many facets and expressions. As people both saved and unsaved come into the counselling offices mentioned above they are coming under His banner of love which will be outworked in their lives in many instances as New Growth.
